The plan as it pertains to my Truffle Shuffles is just to go do the thing Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Until I can do my little out-and-back route without stopping and then continuing on the Getting Started Plan on Nike Run Club. It seems a little fruitless to try speed runs and long runs when I can barely run. Missing bigger goals more often isn’t noble, it’s depressing. So I’ll take my incremental wins where I can get them. As for the site, I like the basic idea of the background box. Now I want more of them. Instead of one massive box around everything I’m working on putting boxes around individual elements. I know I could make each picture and the text section a Div in HTML and manipulate them as Flexbox elements. I need to learn the WordPress way to accomplish the same thing. I think that will tidy up the individual post pages and eliminate all that empty gray space. So that project has taken precedence over the background project in the short term. I’m going to dive into the WordPress documentation and YouTube to see if I can find out how to make that happen. Then I’ll work on learning to properly space and position those elements. I might also revisit the borders on the individual elements. I think the page might look clunky or more disconnected if each element had a black border around it. A lighter gray and a less noticeable border might be more appropriate or visually appealing in that case. We’ll see what happens if I’m able to make the individual boxes happen.

Edit: So I’ve tried some new things. Giving the Paragraph section a new white background, adding a border to the pictures, and adding some padding and margin to the sandwiched paragraph section. It does serve to help with the flow and vast emptiness of the previous version. I’m not quite satisfied yet though. But I am on the right track. I may need to change the site editor settings for my blog page to remove them entirely and build them per blog entry. That would give me flexibility but would create a great deal of redundant work. I believe it’s possible to create alternate layouts for pages, if that’s the case I’ll create an alternate blog page without my gray framing box and use it when I need to create something more dynamic. I’m also considering taking cues from other blogs and shifting the blank space to the sides. Some reading on Reddit leads me to believe the shorter lines that would result from that transition would help with readability on wide screens. Less work for you the visitor if you don’t need to move your eyes or neck too much. A final preview of this slightly modified version has me much more satisfied with it.
